The importance of a good police department and competent government:
San Franciso was one of the most violent counties of the last ten years. The city of San Francisco and the county of San Francisco have a consolidated government so it’s a fair comparison to the five boroughs.
Kamala Harris was first elected as San Francisco’s top prosecutor in 2004 and served until 2011. She ran a campaign on stemming gun violence in poor neighborhoods.
The consequences of not reiging in Black crime are obvious when comparing the trends in population growth:
The percentage of the population that was Black in San Franciso in 2010 was 7% vs 29.5% in New York City. Obviously San Francisco can afford more disorder, but why would you want to do that?
Of course, now that de Blasio has decided to model New York City on San Francisco’s crazy politics, past performace may not be indicative of future results.
