When it comes to drug-related deaths urban areas have the highest death rates and rural areas the lowest.
Looking at the data by age there are some very interesting patterns, but they kind of get lost in the noise so I fitted a multilevel GAM to the data.

When it comes to suicide it is rural Whites who have the highest rates and large metros the ones with the lowest.
